Do you know weave types of wowen wire mesh?

July 31, 2021

Stainless steel wire mesh has many weave types as plain weave, twill weave, and dutch weave including plain dutch weave, twill dutch weave. As wire mesh manufacturers, now I share with you the explanation of these woven types:

Plain Weave

Plain weave is the most common weave type and the most popular woven type. Plain weave means each warp wire (wire running parallel to the length of cloth) passes alternately over and under the wires running travel through the cloth (fill or shoot wires) at 90-degree angles. Each wire alternates – first going under one wire, then going over the next wire.  It has an extremely wide range of applications.

Twill Weave

Twill weave stainless steel wire mesh is woven bypassing the shute wire over and under two warp wires, creating a sturdier weave. This woven tape has a wide application capable of supporting greater loads and finer filtrations. Therefore, this weave allows for the use of heavier wires, producing a stronger wire mesh to meet the need.

Dutch Weave

Plain Dutch Weave

The main purpose of plain Dutch woven wire mesh is to filter and separate liquid and slurry products. Therefore, a larger wire is required to provide strength to the mesh. This metal wire mesh is woven with two sizes of metal wires. The weft uses a smaller wire, as small as a micron size, while the warp uses a larger metal wire. The smaller metal wires are woven tightly together to provide a tight mesh for filtration.

Twill Dutch Weave

Shute wires in twill dutch weaving are passed over and under two warp wires, providing a tight, fine filter with tapered openings. Twill dutch weave stainless steel wire mesh combines dutch and twill weaving to provide a fine mesh filtering cloth.  The weaving process allows for the use of very fine wires, to micron size, producing filtering mesh for gas and liquid applications.
