What Reduces The Service Life Of Stainless Steel Wire Mesh?

Stainless Steel Wire Mesh

The service life of stainless steel wire mesh varies with the application conditions and the type of environmental media. Stainless steel has the property of resistance to atmospheric oxidation - that is, stainless steel. It also has the performance of corrosion resistance in the medium containing acid, alkali, and salt — that is corrosion resistance. But its corrosion resistance is with its own chemical composition of steel, application conditions, and environmental media type and change.

In the dry and clean atmosphere, stainless steel wire mesh certainly has excellent corrosion resistance, but it will be moved to the seaside area, in the sea spray containing a lot of salt, will soon rust. Therefore, not any kind of stainless steel, in any environment can be resistant to corrosion without rusting.

Why is a stainless steel wire mesh corroded?

The stainless steel mesh is made up of a layer of very thin and solid fine stable chromium-rich oxide film (protective film), to avoid the continued entry of oxygen atoms, continued oxidation, and the ability to obtain corrosion resistance. Once there is some reason, this film is constantly damaged, oxygen atoms in the air or liquid will constantly enter or iron atoms in the metal will constantly precipitate out, forming loose iron oxide, and the metal exterior will be constantly rusted. Stainless steel exterior adhesion containing acid, alkali, salt substances (such as decorative wall alkali water, lime water spray), causing partial corrosion. In the polluted air (such as containing a lot of sulfides, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide atmosphere), condensate, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid liquid point, causing chemical corrosion.

Electrochemical corrosion

The surface of the stainless steel wire mesh contains dust or adhering foreign metal particles of other metal elements. In the humid air, the condensation that adheres between the stainless steel wire mesh connects the two into a microcell, triggering an electrochemical reaction. The protective film is destroyed, called electrochemical corrosion. Stainless steel wire mesh attached to the exterior of the organic juice (such as pumpkin, soup noodles, spit, etc.), in the presence of water and oxygen, constitute organic acids. A long time will lead to organic acid corrosion of metal appearance.

How to extend the life of stainless steel wire mesh?

In the usual use of stainless steel wire, but also according to the actual use of the demand for welding treatment, but in the use of welding treatment will generally use a specific model 316 model stainless steel wire, this is because this model of wire rope in the welding at the same time also has a highly effective anti-corrosion, which solves the problem of corrosion in the welding process. According to the customer's special use requirements, stainless steel wire in the use of the process sometimes also have to go through the quenching treatment.
